The meaning of Ilmaha is baby or newborn. Honest products for little ones, handmade with love and precision.

Ilmaha was founded in 2019 by Karina and Daphne, mother and daughter. The moment Daphne became pregnant with her first child, Karina's need to get behind the sewing machine herself again and provide the baby outfits with all kinds of beautiful and honest items came.
At age 5, Karina began making clothes for her dolls. She cut the fabric to the right size and sewed the clothes together by hand. At age 12, she got her grandmother's sewing machine and the real work could begin. She discovered that her passion lay in making beautiful items for herself and those around her, so a few years later she also decided to attend fashion trade school. After graduating, she made many beautiful items, from wedding dresses to doll clothes. Now, 13 years later, she is focusing again on creating beautiful items. With her first grandchild as inspiration and motivation, she works with a lot of love on Ilmaha's products.
Since Daphne's first pregnancy, she has discovered the world of newborn care. In doing so, she discovered that there are many beautiful products on the market, but that there is also much room for improvement. For example, in the materials used, or in the design and ease of use of the products. Together with Karina, Daphne searches for inspiration for new products. She also takes care of purchasing, the webshop and social media channels.

Ilmaha means "newborn" or "baby" in Somali. The Somali language and culture is very familiar to us because Daphne is married to a Somali man. So that also means that our (grand)children are half Somali.
One of the first steps we had to take when starting our business was coming up with a name. We decided to translate a few words into Somali and immediately fell in love with the word Ilmaha. A beautiful word with a fitting meaning!
You may have already noticed, but you can see several Somali influences emerging within our company. For example, there is a star in our logo, this is the same star as on the Somali flag. And our handmade pacifier cloths are also shaped like this star.
